May
Garden Tips
- Its
May! A great time to plant trees, shrubs, perennials, groundcovers
and fruits. Set out warm season vegetables such as tomatoes, peppers,
squash and cucumbers.
- Slugs
and snails love newly planted annuals and vegetables. Silvery
trails and chewed leaves are sure signs of their presence. Other
pests to watch out for this month include aphids and gypsy moth
caterpillars. Ask us about organic methods of controlling these
and other pests.
- For
color from now until frost, fill your yard and containers too,
with colorful summer blooming annuals. Ask about the many varieties
that we carry. Whether you have sun or shade we have color combinations
that will dazzle you.
- Fertilize
trees, shrubs, perennials and lawns if you havent done so
already this spring. Feed roses monthly until the end of summer.
Fertilize annuals and vegetables regularly. Dont forget
those in containers and hanging baskets.
- Prune
deciduous spring flowering shrubs such as Forsythia and lilacs
immediately after flowering has finished, to shape or confine
as needed. Remove spent flowers of annuals regularly to keep them
blooming right through summer.
- Dont
forget Mothers Day
Weve got great gift ideas
